Whose idea was Canberra Glee Club?

Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Madeleine, the person with a dream of creating the exact class I wish existed when I was growing up. I am a singing teacher with over 15 years experience and a passion for musicals, operas and performing.

I started singing lessons at age 11 and spent around eight years singing choirs. By my late teens I was performing as a soloist and chorus member in local productions. These have included musicals, operas and many Gilbert and Sullivan's operettas. The sad thing about being in a theatre production is that you become a family with the cast and crew, then suddenly it's all over and the group never comes together again. This is unlike a choir which, in my experience, maintains many members over a long period.

In addition to singing, I've completed degrees in Arts and Law and have worked various office jobs related to my degrees, however my heart belongs to singing. I started teaching singing in 2009 and have always been pulled back to music and performing and I'm excited to be able to build this new club from the ground up. I have studied sociology and law to graduate level and worked as a Disability Advocate which has given me a deep understanding of the social and cultural importance of music and performing opportunities. A sense of belonging in a group of like minded people is so important for creative spirits.

I hope to create belonging and joy through Canberra Glee Club.
